The bidding for the Notting Hill police station has been extended to 13 May, which means that the decision whom to sell to won’t be taken before the middle of May. The reason for the extension isn’t known (this will be the third extension), but it’s probably a combination of lack of bids and the restrictions on taking politically sensitive decisions during the weeks leading up to an election, in this case the local elections on 5 May. This extension means that the ongoing petition to keep the police station for continued community use can run for several more weeks.

The Met has decided to close and sell Notting Hill police station, in spite of all the opposition during the consultation. However, Kensington Society has succeeded in getting the building designated an AVC (Asset of Community Value). In addition, the council’s policy CK1 clearly states that sites of social or community use will not be allowed to be used for something else if other social or community use can be found for them – and there are many possible uses for the the police station. The fight continues!
