The Kensington Society AGM 2018

Monday 29 April 2019, 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start

Guest speaker at The Kensington Society 2019 annual general meeting will be Dr Simon Thurley, the architectural historian who was the head of English Heritage from 2002 to 2015.

The AGM will as usual be held in Kensington Town Hall’s Great Hall, and afterwards all attendees are invited to the Mayor’s Parlour for a wine reception.

Visit to the Royal Society of Sculptors

Thursday 10 October 2019, 6.30 – 8.30pm

In October we are invited to a private view of a brand-new exhibition of work by two important Japanese sculptors in Dora House – the fascinating Old Brompton Road home of the Royal Society of Sculptors. We’ll also learn more about the house and the society.

A tour of the Supreme Court

Thursday 9 May 2019, 6.30 – 8.30pm

Although the building is Grade II* listed and its interior looks very old, the Supreme Court, the highest appeal court in the United Kingdom, has only existed since 2009.

Few people outside the legal professions have seen the inside, but in May we will be invited to a tour of this fascinating building and learn more about what the court does.

Hill & Park at the Frestonian Gallery

Thursday 20 June 2019,  6.30 – 8.30pm

In May and June, the Frestonian Gallery in Notting Dale will be hosting ‘Hill & Park’, an exhibition of work by many of the artists who have called Notting Hill and Holland Park their home, such as Patrick Caulfield, Lucian Freud, Patrick Heron, David Hockney and Bridget Riley.

We’ll get a private curator’s tour which includes a glass of fizz.

Guided tour of Kensal Green Cemetery

Tuesday 16 July 2019, 6.30 – 8.30pm

In July, we will get a fascinating guided tour of the oldest and largest of London’s seven large commercial cemeteries that were established between 1833 and 1841: Kensal Green Cemetery, where more than 250,000 bodies have been interned through the years.

Today there are 65,000 marked graves; some are simple while others are enormous mausoleums.
